ez action: send summer postcards of support to magdalena garcía durán...

no, she's not a former member of duran duran...

magdalena garcía durán, a mazahua indigenous activist, street vendor and mother of five children, has been in prison since may 2006 when she was arbitrarily arrested in san salvador atenco...

on may 3 - 4, 2006, a police operation against demonstrations led by a local peasant farmer organization in texcoco and san salvador atenco resulted in the arrest of 207 people, the death of two civilians and scores of injured protesters and police...many of those detained suffered torture, ill-treatment and sexual assault...on may 4 several police officers reportedly pulled magdalena garcía out of the van in which she had traveled to san salvador atenco, beat and kicked her repeatedly, handcuffed her, covered her head and forced her to lie sandwiched between other detainees in a waiting vehicle...officers repeatedly threatened to kill her "like a dog,"...

nothing like this is ever happened to nick rhodes or john taylor...

amnesty international believes magdalena garcía's prolonged detention is politically motivated and totally unjustified...the authorities have reportedly failed to provide evidence of her involvement in the crimes for which she has been accused, and there are indications that the little evidence available was probably fabricated...amnesty considers her to be a prisoner of conscience and is calling for her immediate and unconditional release...
