a major victory for darfuris!...keep the pressure on - sign the petition today...

at last - there is a major victory in darfur to report and YOU helped make it happen by blogging, getting signatures, making calls, writing letters, and never letting go of this huge human rights crisis...

the major victory for the women, men, and children of darfur who have been brutalized over the past four long years came on tuesday, the u.n. security council announced that it will deploy 26,000 peacekeepers and police to from a full hybrid u.n.-african union mission by the end of 2007...

this is amazing news.

this unprecedented number of u.n. boots on the ground will protect darfuris at risk of attack, disease and starvation, and will aim to stabilize the region...and while this victory has renewed my spirit and the spirit of everyone who has worked so hard to end the crisis, there is still much to be done before we can truly celebrate...

please accept all of our deepest thanks for all that you have done and all that you do to protect human rights...today, will you take a strong stand for the people of darfur and sign our global petition?..help ensure that passage of this week’s u.n.s.c. resolution is genuinely the beginning of lasting peace for women, men and children living there...

amnesty international and its human rights partners will deliver the global petition to the white house, and press president bush to use his influence to ensure that the new u.n. timeline for the deployment of u.n. peacekeepers and police to join the hybrid mission is followed and that peacekeepers have all the resources they need...it is time to guarantee the full protection of all civilians affected by violence in darfur and the region...

look - you and I must make it clear that we will not stand for any further steps backwards...we must move forward toward genuine peace and human rights in darfur...

peace out <3
