today, friday june 20, is refugee day...it is a day to recognize the plight of refugees around the world...this includes palestinians who have been stranded on iraq's border since the u.s.-led invasion of iraq in 2003... since that invasion, approximately 2,700 palestinian refugees have been abducted, tortured, killed, intimidated and threatened with death by shi'a armed militia groups...the militia groups have made conditions intolerable for palestinians in iraq and they are restricted from entering any of the neighboring countries...
with nowhere else to turn, palestinian refugees are forced to stay in makeshift camps near the borders of iraq and syria that one aid worker described as "hell,"...
