lgbt activist in kosovo under threat...

part of what we ask, i ask you to do is to help protect human rights defenders...

now the definition of human rights defenders contained in the u.n. declaration on human rights defenders adopted in 1998 includes all those who defend the rights enshrined in regional and international treaties, conventions and declarations, including members of social movements in the continent who defend civil, political, economic, social, cultural and collective rights...

so this dude definitely falls under that rubric...a man known as k.z., the head of a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights organization in kosovo, has received a death threat linked to his work...though k.z. has reported this threat to the police, he has not received any protection...

the death threat said that k.z.'s family should prepare his funeral within two weeks, and that k.z. would "end up in hell" as a result of his work for lgbt rights...amnesty international has documented a number of cases of lgbt people who have fled kosovo after receiving similar threats or being physically assaulted...

as if there weren't enough pushes driving people away from kosovo as it is...

peace out <3

p.s. perhaps president bush will address this today while he's in kosovo...naaaaaaaaahhhhh...
