support the troops: stand up for soldiers who are being denied a voice...

u.s. soldiers are being imprisoned for refusal to go to war based on conscience, religious, and moral beliefs -- a right guaranteed by international human rights law...i need you to help me to raise awareness about this increasing human rights violation in the u.s...as an example of what i'm talking about meet conscientious objector and former prisoner of conscience camilo mejía and get his story.

in the last few years, there has been an increase in the number of applications from soldiers refusing to participate in the war and occupation in iraq...they have applied for conscientious objector (co) status, which would allow them exemption from participation in war, based on reasons of conscience or conviction..u.s.owever, the US government has denied most of them and has aggressively pursued soldiers who have gone absent without leave (awol), a crime punishable by a maximum sentence of death by firing squad...click here to read more about imprisoned and recently-released conscientious objectors...

in fact you can help free a conscientious objector...just fax or mail a letter as soon as possible to the secretary of the army asking for mr. wilkerson's unconditional and immediate release (sample letter available). » you can write today...read about other pending cases...get more information if you are a member of the armed forces and are considering applying for co status

peace out <3
